Firefighter Steve Piotrowski was nominated to be in the 2010 Wayne County Firefighters Calendar. Steve was chosen to represent the month of May in the Calendar.

Station 75 responds to Possible Structure Fire on Tuthill Rd. with 10 other Companies
On January 19th, 2010, At 12:03, Station 75 was dispatched for a possible structure fire with Co. 94, Co. 12, Co. 1, Co. 13, and Companies 24 and 59 out of Lackawanna County at 158 Tuthill Rd at Knecht’s General Contracting. Chief 75 arrived on scene and confirmed a working structure fire and asked for a second alarm assignment to be dispatched due to the building being a large storage facility. Co. 41 rescue, squad  62, and Co. 21 tanker were placed on stand-by at Station 75 while 67 tanker was requested to the scene.  The initial attack was a success until oxygen cylinders and tires began exploding in the garage. The decision to use class A foam was made to smother the fire.  The fire was controlled and extinguished at 13:26.  Extensive damage was done to only half the building but the other half was saved.  All units went available and returned after hot spots were extinguished.  The PA state police fire marshals were requested to the scene to determine a cause.
2nd Alarm Structure Fire on Tuthill Road on 1-19-10

FF obtains NFPA 1006 Rescue Technician Cert.
Congratulations to Firefighter Steve Piotrowski for passing the NFPA's 1006 (CORE) Rescue Technician Certification Program.  The program was 48 hours of class room and practical training.  Applicants had to complete a written and practical exam demonstrating their ability to command and perform critical skills in the fields of scene management, mechanical advantage systems, rope management, anchor systems, rescue knots, technical rescue equipment identification and application, size up considerations, hazard control, landing zones, basic patient care and packaging, triage criteria and techniques.

After the completion of the NFPA 1006 (CORE) program they also successfully completed the written and practical tests for Vehicle and Machinery Rescue Technician as well.

3 run Sunday for Station 75!

On Sunday, January 31, 2010, Station 75 had 3 calls:
 
--Station 75 and Waymart EMS were dispatched for a Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarm activation at 116 Fox Lane Road. Crews searched the residence and nothing was found.
 
--Station 75 was dispatched along with Company 1 and their first alarm box assignment for a chimney fire on Schiavetta Trail in Cherry Ridge Township. Company 1 command kept all Lake units on scene and returned the remainder of the box.
 
--Rescue 75 was dispatched to assist Station 60 out of Lackawanna County for a one car MVA on Salem Mountain. Rescue 75 was cancelled while enroute.

These 3 calls ended the first month of the new year with a total of 27 calls for 2010. This number is already 8 runs higher then the previous 2 years for the month of January.

The New Year starts off busy for Station 75..

Busy Saturday for crews..
On Saturday April 3, 2010 Station 75 assisted Waymart EMS on a DOA on Tuthill Road, assisted Station 94 on a brush fire on Creek Drive, and ran a brush fire on Robinson Road.
 
75 RUV back in service!
75 RUV is back in service. This model is the 2010 Kawasaki Teryx 750. This unit was acquired through a special loaner program from Rusty Palmer Kawasaki in Honesdale. We received this machine back and it was in service in March 2010

On Saturday April 3, 2010 Station 75 assisted Waymart EMS on a DOA on Tuthill Road, assisted Station 94 on a brush fire on Creek Drive, and ran a brush fire on Robinson Road.

2 members attend weekend training
Over the weekend of April 10th and April 11th, Waymart Deputy Shawn Vinton and Firefighter Steve Piotrowski traveled to Doylestown to Bucks County Community College’s Public Safety Training Center for a Flammable Liquids of FF Class. Also Steve attended a Structural burn session that was during the day on Saturday. Both classes were hosted by Station 24 (Greenfield). A big thanks goes out to all the staff at BCCC, all the instructors in the class, Station 24 (Greenfield), Station 18 (Clifford), 59 (William Walker), and 58 (Crystal) for all their efforts and for supplying everything needed for the weekend.

Crews operate on morning structure fire
On Friday morning of May 7, 2010, Company 1, Station 75, and Waymart EMS were dispatched for a structure fire on Shaffer Road in South Canaan at 08:54 hours. Shortly after dispatch, it was a confirmed working structure fire. Rescue and Tanker 75 responded within 5 minutes of dispatch with full crews. Rescue 75 arrived on scene and pulled two hand lines assisting Company 1 with the fire attack.

Crews operate on another morning structure fire
On Monday morning of May 10, 2010 at 5:45am, Station 75, Waymart EMS and our first alarm box assignment were dispatched for a possible structure fire on Route 296 near North Baker Road. First reports from the scene reported a working structure fire on Knobby Knoll Lane. Chief 75 struck out a 2nd alarm.  Crews operated for many hours controlling this stubborn blaze.

3 more members attain National Certification
On Saturday May 15, 2010, 3 members of the Waymart Volunteer Fire Company traveled to Doylestown to Bucks County Community College’s Public Safety Training Center for their practical skills test for the Firefighter 2 National Certification. All three members that tested passed their written and practical exams.
 
To date, the Waymart Volunteer Fire Company has  8 firefighters nationally certified at the FF1 level and 4 that are certified at the FF2 level. Congratulations to all members.

75 runs MVA with entrapment
On Thursday, May 20, 2010, Station 75, Waymart EMS, and Mobile 9 were dispatched for a 2 car MVA with confirmed entrapment on Farview Mountain. Rescue 51 responded with a full crew to assist. Rescue 75 arrived on scene and immediately went to work. The Rescue crews stabilized the vehicle and removed the passenger side front door, then crews performed a wide body cut on the vehicle to remove the patient out the passenger side. Patient was packaged and handed over to EMS.
Another working fire in the first due!
On Saturday May 22, 2010, Station 75 along with the first alarm box assignment were dispatched for a structure fire on Robinson Road in South Canaan. 75-11 arrived on scene to report a working structure fire with smoke coming out of all sides. Rescue 75 responded within minutes of dispatch. Rescue 75 arrived on scene and entered the structure with a hose line to start the fire attack. The fire was under control in about an hour from dispatch. Many other companies operated on scene and assisted with containing this blaze. Companies operated on scene for about 5 hours. 75 Asst Chief held command with 12 Chief as Operations. (Click here for pictures)
Kids visit Station 75
On Tuesday, May 26, 2010, Two Pre-K classes and a Girl Scout troop from Waymart visited the fire station. The kids were given a guided tour of the fire station.
Afternoon MVA
On Monday, May 31, 2010, Rescue 75 was dispatched along with Company 43, Waymart EMS, and Mobile 9 for a 2 car MVA with one car over the embankment on White Oak Drive.

 
75 assists Lake Ariel with vehicle into house
On July 7, 2010, Rescue 75 was dispatched along with Company 1 and DNA Ambulance for an MVA with a car into a house on Keystone Road near Anderson Road. Rescue 75 crews assisted with stabilizing the vehicle and the house.
Station 75 has busy day
On July 19, 2010, Station 75 had two runs. First being a working structure fire on Faller Road in South Canaan and the second a possible structure fire on Honesdale Road in Waymart. Visit the Call Log for more details.
 
2 wrecks for Station 75..
On August 10, 2010 Station 75 operated on 2 different MVA's throughout the day. The first, Station 75, Company 94, Waymart EMS, and Mobile 9 were dispatched for a one car MVA with entrapment on Route 6 near the Streamside Bar. Chief 75 requested 12 Rescue to be dispatched to assist. Crews arrived to find one patient entrapped in the vehicle. Crews went to work and cribbed the car. Rescue 75 crews lifted the dash with the Hurst Rams to free the patients feet and used the hydraulic cutters to cut the excess metal. Crews then assisted EMS and removed the patient from the vehicle.
 
The second, Company 94, 12 Rescue, Waymart EMS, and Mobile 504 were dispatched for a one car rollover with ejection at the intersection of Route 6 & 170. Further reports gave a corrected location of Route 6 & Keen Lake Road. Rescue 75 was dispatched to the scene.
Station 75 assists on Structure Fire

Station 75 was dispatched along with the first alarm box assignment for a working structure fire on the Owego Turnpike. First arriving units found a chimney fire.

Station 75 keeps busy for Fire Prevention Week!
This year during the week of October 3, 2010, was the Annual Fire Prevention Week throughout the country. Listed below is a list of the week-long events that Station 75 conducted for Fire Prevention Week. Also, this years theme from the NFPA was "Smoke Alarms, a Sound you can live with." This year, when we visited the RD Wilson School during the week, our verbal presentation was focused on Smoke Alarms and all the details about them.

Station 75 runs working motel fire in the first due!
On November 24, 2010 At 05:16 hrs, Station 75 was dispatched to the Blue Stone Motel for reports of a working fire at that location. On arrival, first arriving units found heavy fire showing prompting a full first and second alarm. Stations 94, 12, 1, 13L4, L18, E24, and R59 responded. After a quick knockdown of the spreading fire, crews operated for over 3 hours before the fire was broughtunder control. Shortly after, the fire was declared out and all companies except R75 cleared the scene. Crews from Station 75 remained and assisted the PSP Fire Marshal with the investigation. The Motel was fully occupied with 17 residents in 9 units. Crews were able to keep the fire to 4 units with smoke and water damaging 2 more; leaving 5 people displaced. There were no injuries or fatalities reported. After returning to the station, firefighters were welcomed by the Waymart Ladies Auxiliary who had prepared a breakfast for the responders. It was a wonderful surprise! Thank you! The bulk of the remainder of the day was spent at the station readying the equipment and apparatus for the next alarm. Photo & Story by TimMacdonald
